These are just a few examples of the type of claims we have successfully pursued for our clients.  No matter what type of accident you have had, our specialist personal injury solicitors have the skills and expertise to get the best possible compensation payment for you. We have pursued successful claims against some of the biggest supermarkets and shops for customers who have slipped, tripped, or had something fall on them.

Advice on what to do following an accident

We would advise you to gather as much evidence as possible, such as photos and measurements before reporting the incident to the Local Authority. Otherwise, they may repair the area before evidence is gathered and try and defeat your claim by arguing that they inspected the area days prior to your accident and the defect, which caused your accident, has only just appeared.

If your accident happened in a shop, at work or another place then you should report it and ensure the accident report form is filled out in your presence and that you are allowed to read it and are happy that they have described the circumstances of your fall correctly.

Slipping and Tripping Accidents

Slip and trip cases are probably one of the most common causes of accidents and can include slips and trips in shops, factories or offices, falls down disguised or poor steps or stairs, and in other public places.

FAQ's

If you have been involved in an accident the first thing you should do is:

  1. Report the accident to the Police – In most cases if a driver is uninsured, they will try to leave the scene of the accident to avoid prosecution. Make notes of anything you remember such as the make, model and registration of the other vehicle. Ask for information from any witnesses present and if possible, take pictures of the scene and note the driving conditions and the time of the accident. This will assist the police and assist your case.

You must do this within 14 days of the accident.

  1. Contact J W Hughes & Co - We can guide you through making a claim for compensation for an accident where the driver left the accident scene and if the driver was uninsured.

Yes, once you have reported the accident to the police, please contact us and we can guide you through the process of claiming with the Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB).

Yes, it is still possible to make a claim against a driver who left the scene of the accident and cannot be found. There are provisions in place with the Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB) to claim compensation for a ‘hit and run’ accident where the driver is untraceable.

Keep in mind that claims for vehicle damage do have time limits so it is important to contact J W Hughes & Co as soon as practically possible.
