Slip and Trip Accidents
Slips and trips are one of the most common causes of accidents, but could the accident have been prevented?
J W Hughes & Co have vast experience in dealing with claims arising from accidents in supermarkets, shops, and other public places.
No matter what type of accident you have had, our experienced solicitors have the skills and expertise to get the best possible compensation payment for you. We have pursued successful claims against some of the biggest supermarkets and shops for customers who have slipped, tripped, or had something fall on them.
Advice on what to do following an accident
We would advise you to gather evidence such as photos and measurements before reporting the incident to the Local Authority otherwise they may repair the area before evidence is gathered and try and defeat your claim by arguing that they inspected the area days before your accident and the defect, which caused your accident, has only just appeared. This provides the Local Authority with a complete defence to your claim.
If your accident happens in a shop, at work or another place then you should report it and ensure the accident report form is filled out in your presence and that you are allowed to read it and are happy that they have described the circumstances of your fall correctly.
We would advise that you:
- Make your own notes of what happened
- If possible take photographs and measurements of the area where you tripped/slipped
- If there are any witnesses ask them for their telephone numbers and address
- Ensure that you seek medical attention for your injuries.

FAQ's
To prove your injury in a slip and trip accident claim, you’ll need to gather various types of evidence. Here are some key steps to follow:
Seek Medical Attention: Immediately after the accident, visit a healthcare professional. Medical records will document the extent of your injuries and the treatment you received.
Document the Scene: Take photographs or videos of the accident scene, including any hazards that caused your fall. Make sure to capture different angles and close-ups.
Incident Reports: If the accident occurred in a public place or business, report it to the management and ensure an incident report is filed. Obtain a copy of this report.
Witness Statements: Collect contact information and statements from anyone who witnessed the accident. Their testimonies can support your claim.
Surveillance Footage: If available, obtain CCTV footage that captured the accident.
