Dying Intestate

The term is used for when someone dies without a Will.

Has someone died without a Will?

When a person dies without leaving a valid Will this is known as dying intestate, which means their estate (money, assets, and property) must be shared according to the Rules of Intestacy.

Only married or civil partners and some other close relatives can inherit under the Rules of Intestacy. So, if you are divorced, or if your civil partnership has been legally ended, you cannot inherit under the Rules of Intestacy. Unmarried partners who were cohabiting are not entitled to inherit.

We can help you find out who inherits money, property and possessions if someone dies without making a Will.
