What should I not do?

If you have an accident and you notify your insurers you will start to receive calls, not only from your insurers wanting to handle your personal injury claim, but also even the guilty party's insurance company offering to represent you in your claim against their insured. This practice is corrupt and wrong and the third-party insurer offering to deal with you directly or appoint their solicitors to represent you is not going to be very keen on looking after your best interests. Do not fall for it!

I have legal expense insurance - what should I do?

You may have legal expense insurance to fund legal costs built into your vehicle insurance. Again, your insurers may want to refer your case to their solicitors. Ask yourself why? The reason, of course, is that they then sell your claim to a firm of solicitors on their panel of solicitors. These solicitors are invariably based in large cities such as London, Newcastle Upon Tyne or Leeds, etc. Ask yourself do you want to place your claim into the hands of solicitors hundreds of miles away, who you will never see or have personal contact with, and where all your dealings will be by phone or email? You are not required to do so just because your insurer says so!
